Where the numbers come from

The easiest lie a pre-purchase tool can tell is to sound certain about something it doesn't know. What follows is how we made that lie impossible.

The 35-panel taxonomy

The panel list is fixed: 35 records across five groups (main, side, pillar, chassis, bumper). That number is not a target but a denominator — reading a report means answering the entire list. Which panels are expected for which body type is defined separately.

A checklist, not transcription

Ask for a table to be "summarised" and the rows that get skipped leave no trace: an error counter only counts the rows it saw, never the ones it didn't. We measured it — 9 of 33 panels went unread in the same document while the counter reported zero errors. The fix is to demand a fixed-length answer: for every row, either a value, or "not in the document", or "unreadable".

The ATO 2026 labour tariff

Cost estimates rest on the Ankara Chamber of Commerce's 2026 Maximum Vehicle Repair Labour Tariff (approved 30.04.2026, published 18.05.2026). The tariff is a maximum price, excluding VAT and parts. Separate item sets are used for mechanical, body and paint work.

Numbers are always ranges

No monetary value is given as a single point. A range is the simplest way not to present something unmeasured as measured: writing one number asserts that the number is right. Nor do we fall back to a default for an unknown input — zero is not "neutral", it sits at the end of most scales.

No record without a source

A chronic-fault record without a source cannot enter the product. Every record carries a campaign number, complaint IDs or a verified source note. A candidate whose mechanism can't be verified stays a candidate.

"No data" is not "clean"

A source returning zero results means "none" only once it has been independently proven that it understood the question. A query that comes back empty because a brand name didn't match is enough to make a car look clean — and on safety data, that is a fabricated claim. We store the two states separately.

Measured variance

Same document, same settings, several runs: the panel read returned 33 rows in all five runs; the mechanical row count varied between 26 and 99, and the grade the user sees moved between B and C. We write that down rather than hide it — it is exactly why the output is a range.

Data-protection stance

We read only vehicle-related fields from a registration-document photo; name, surname, identity number and address are not read at all. In persisted error records, quoted values and long digit runs are masked — otherwise a debugging detail turns into stored personal data.
